How Much Does a Limo Ride Cost?

People rent limos for all kinds of occasions. Perhaps they are looking for a fun and safe ride to a concert.

Perhaps they are celebrating a friend’s upcoming wedding with a bachelorette party.

Prom is a common event for limo rentals. And of course there are weddings.

Whether you’re looking for a special night on the town for a milestone birthday, a comfortable ride to the airport, or any of the reasons listed above, your biggest question is probably what it will cost.

There are a number of factors that go into the answer to how much does a limo ride cost.

What Kind of Car Do You Need?

The kind of car that you need for your event is one factor to consider in the cost of getting a limo.

Sedans – also known as towncars – are luxury vehicles that hold 2 to 3 people plus the driver.

These are a great option for a date night, special evening with your significant other, or rides to and from the airport.

Luxury SUVs are similar to the sedan, but may hold an additional passenger or two.

The kind of car you think of when you think “limo” is a stretch limo. A small limo typically holds 4 to 6 people.

A traditional stretch holds 7 to eight. Many of the vehicles in this and higher classes offer various amenities such as TVs, sound systems, and a bar.

Beyond these options are super stretch limos – which hold 20 or more people – and party buses. Larger party buses can hold more than 40 people.

For How Long?

Limo service is generally charged by the hour, and the hourly rate can be dependent on when you need it.

As a range, car service can cost anywhere between $40 into the hundreds per hour for things like party buses and super stretch limos.

When you are looking to get the car can also make a difference in price.

On weekdays the hourly rate may be lower, while during high demand times, like Friday night and weekends, the price might go up.

There are exceptions to hourly rules if the limo service runs packaged deals for specific events, such as weddings or prom.

Gratuity?

Gratuity – or a tip – is expected for the driver. You should expect to add 15 to 20% to the cost of your car service, and in some cases, be prepared to pay the tip to the driver directly.

Some car companies will include gratuity in the service contract. You should always ask when making a reservation if gratuity is already added to the contract amount or if it’s separate and should be paid at the time of service.

The bottom line is, to know what your limo service will cost, you need to contact your service provider.

They can help guide you in choosing the right car style for your needs and budget and answer any questions that you might have along the way.
